Living in these times...

Lesley Silver

Generally we complain when we are so stressed from our daily tasks. Working full or part time from either home or an office, while still trying to juggle our daily tasks. Running errands, picking and dropping off the kids, groceries, cooking meals and just keeping our daily lives moving forward.

But what happens when you take the outside away, and have to deal with all these tasks from the inside of your home? 🏠 When you have to work from home, with the family around, still attempting to keep groceries in the home, food on the table - plus the kids happy. 😜 They may be doing on-line classes, but many off hours have to keep them busy, when they have a limit to how far they can go from the house.

You can go out of the house but stay within 1000 meters. Not be around friends or even family that are not living in the home. If you have to do errands, you may get stopped on the way to prove where and why you are leaving the house.

Or you live on your own and have no one around to communicate with.

Oh right and when you do go out, you have to be masked 😷

What happens when we are stuck in the house? Staying indoors all the time can actually do more harm than good: Staying inside all the time may lead to one missing out on several health benefits. Here are just a few.

1. Moodiness: Meaghan Ricce, Psy.D., L.P.C., a Talkspace therapist, trainer, and peer consultant. "Being able to observe the clouds in the sky, the birds chirping, and trees swaying in the breeze allows us to shift our energy and be present in the here and now," s This enhanced focus on the world around you (instead of the anxieties battling for attention) can help soothe you on a tough day, Rice says

2. Anxiety: Anxiety can build up and increase when we're inside for great lengths of time, so if you begin to see yourself become upset by seemingly minor things yelling at the kids, or just feelings of real restlessness you need to get out.

3. Sleep Issues: For just a few minutes each hour opening the window, taking a step into the fresh air, or catching some sunlight on a quick stroll." This can increase your sun exposure and help soothe your sleep troubles.

4. Weight Gain: appetite changes t often accompanies feeling stuck indoors. Lack of physical activity, being indoors tends to also give us the munchies, as do stress and anxiety

5. Hygiene: Have you noticed that you may not give a care about how you look and smell especially when we’re busy doing chores. However, not caring about personal hygiene can lead to bacteria accumulation not only in our bodies but also in the air inside the house. Just think of all of you "stuck" in the house and certain smells begin to appear.

So what can we do?

Being locked up doesn't mean we can't get out. Go for a walk, do activities with the kids to keep them busy and having fun away from the on-line activities. (Unless the on-line activities are educational). Try to find things to do from your garden, enjoy the time with them, without going crazy.
