Essential Oils - First things to know...

Lesley Silver

If you want to learn more about Essential Oils, there are many books out there. But for me trying to save on costs, my best friend is Google.

The first thing that I do want to mention is that when Essential Oils are purchased in a health store or just off the "racks' generally are not 100% pure - only 1 drop of pure essential oil has to be present - and the rest is a carrier oil. That is why there is such a price differentiation. I use Doterra Essential Oils, yes it is expensive, but it is also ALL 100% pure essential oil in each container, unless otherwise specified, and they also created its own testing process, calling it "CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade®. The CPTG process certifies that there are no added fillers, synthetic ingredients, or harmful contaminants in their essential oils that would reduce their efficacy. doTERRA even goes a step further, putting all their products and the packaging through a battery of tests to ensure a long and effective shelf-life. This protocol ensures potency, purity, and consistency batch to batch." As well - Doterra Essential Oils has already received Kosher Certification.

When first using Essential Oils - it is recommended to test it out first - many people can be very sensitive to them. You can dilute the oil that you are using a few drops in a bottle - 5 0r 10 ml with carrier oil. I generally use Fractionated Coconut Oil or Almond Oil.

The Essential Oils can be enter the body in 3 ways:

1. Topically

2. Inhaled

3. Ingested

Generally it is topically and inhaled you have to be very careful when ingesting Essential Oils as not all can be so consult with a person who is aware of which ones you can. There are several reasons for caution, including the following: some essential oils can be toxic to the liver or kidneys when ingested. Chemical breakdown of essential oils during gastric processing can change the effects.

So now that you know a little of how to use, and what to look for when purchasing you Essential Oil - you can begin to learn a little more. If you are interested in coming on board with Doterra Essential Oils you can also check out some of my other pages on my website and also join my team:
